ABOUT LAURA BRODY

Ask Laura Brody about her training philosophy and she won't hesitate to tell you, "I wasn't always a positive trainer! I'm a convert! When I started working with dogs in 1977, it was all choke chains and corrections and some pretty awful treatment of dogs during the learning process. My training consisted of leash corrections if the dog wasn't in the perfect position or wasn't sitting fast enough or she got up from a stay. Now, I wouldn't dream of shutting down the dog's desire to learn by punishing them for wrong responses. I look at the whole process and work from the position that you have to speak your dog's language, reward them for desired responses and stop reinforcing behaviors you don't like."

Laura has studied dog behavior and body language. "My whole training philosophy is about setting the dog up to succeed, creating a treatment and training plan that works for both owner and dog, desensitizing anxious dogs and teaching the team to love learning. Most of my time is spent with private in-home clients, but I love teaching my group classes. It's such a thrill to see 7 or 8 dogs and their owners make amazing progress in a 5 week period. And, I'm funny. Ask anyone!"

Laura is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer, a member of Victoria Stilwell's Positively Dog Training team, a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator with the AKC, a graduate of Animal Behavior College, a former talk show radio host, donates her expertise to several breed rescue groups and has created GOOD FAMILY DOGs for hundreds of clients and students.
